User Experience II

A day for the people who do it themselves. The same subject as in workshop I, seen from the side of those who design, build and decide what gets made next.

Description

What the day is about

The four steps of human-centred design as things you do: gather the context of use, derive requirements from it, draft designs, examine them. In workshop I these are terms; here they are working steps on your own material.

What exactly is worked on we settle in a preliminary talk. Two to eight people, one day, one project from your organisation.

What you take away

Methods you can apply the next day, plus materials and instructions. Not a deck to read again afterwards, but templates that keep being used in the running project.

One or two?

Both days are the same length and cover the same ground. The difference lies in the depth, not in an order.

User Experience I is the day for understanding. It is for everyone involved in planning and design, or working alongside usability and UX professionals: management, product owners, project leads, marketing, software development.

User Experience II is the extended version, for the people who design and build themselves: product owners, web and product design, project leads, software development. The same steps, carried further and spent longer on your own material.

Workshop I is not a prerequisite. If you know it needs to go deeper, book the second day straight away; if you first want to sort out the terms, the first one is the right one.

What you need to bring

A product or service you are currently working on. The day is not made for listeners, it lives on the case you bring.

You do not need prior knowledge of any particular tool. The methods work regardless of what your team draws its interfaces with.

Who the workshop is not for

Groups that only need an overview. The second day goes further and spends longer on your own case; if all you want is to sort out the terms, the first one is cheaper and quicker.

And for rounds where the design has already been settled. Where nothing may be changed at the end, the day becomes an exercise in confirmation.
